Tuesday: Florida Primary

So Tuesdays are going to be my political days here on the blog :) Tonight was the long awaited Florida primary, where Mitt Romney took the victory over Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul. This isn't the first time Romney has fought to win Florida, but it is his first victory. As of 10:40 pm reported on The Washington Post's website, Mitt Romney came in with about 46.4%, ahead of Gingrich who had 31.9%, Santorum came in with only 13.4% and Ron Paul with 7%. My initial thought is, oh God, Romney won. Then it was, at least it wasn't Newt, and then it changed to, it doesn't matter they're all terrible. In his victory speech Romney had the audacity to say this:
"Leadership is about taking responsibility, not making excuses,” he said. “Mr. President, you were elected to lead. You chose to follow. Now it’s time for you to get out of the way.”
Excuse me? Obama is a follower? I'm sorry, while I will admit his presidency has not been the amazing show we had hoped for, he was trying to get things passed while you Republicans shot it down in Congress. He has been trying to get health care, he's been fighting for jobs, he's pulled us out of Afghanistan...and you call him a follower? Mitt Romney is an idiot as far as I'm concerned. Plus, while watching the results on MSNBC tonight, I couldn't agree more with Chris Matthews who pretty much said that unless Romney has a script or a teleprompter, he is useless.

So, then Newt Gingrich comes on to give his speech. First, let me say that I find his wife terrifying to look at. Her face does not move in the least bit. His speech was pretty much all his thoughts mashed together in no particular order. That's fun to follow, isn't it? I will admit though, he is a better speaker than Romney ever will be. Even if it isn't a smooth speech, at least he forms somewhat coherent thoughts. Essentially what it boiled down to though, was a lot of campaign promises. My favorite is his promise to reverse the "war" that President Obama has waged on the Christian Religion. Say what? Awesome, bringing once again two things that should have never been combined in the first place.

So what do I think will happen from here? I think essentially Romney and Gingrich will battle it out until the end, but it will get ugly. Not that it hasn't already, after Gingrich won South Carolina, Romney went after him like a beast. To get an idea, in Florida Gingrich only ran about 300 ads, while Romney had 1000s. The money spent alone by each differs drastically, which tells you a few things. A. Romney just has more resources and B. Newt might just not have been doing enough.

I think before we get to more mudslinging by those two, Ron Paul may surprise a bit. He did technically come in 4th in Florida, but he has more delegates which by his words, "is what matters". Honestly, I think the public forgets sometimes that Santorum is even in the race at all. He just does not generate any publicity, good or bad, at least at this point. I think the last news I have heard on him is what his last name could mean, and I don't even want to get into that.

However, I think Ron Paul has a decent chance of at least hanging on for a while longer. He has the fact that a lot of youth is standing behind him. It seems like if they aren't behind Obama, then they've turned to Ron Paul. He also is becoming the lesser of all the evils in this race, which speaks loudly for many people. The Republicans have not redeemed themselves in anyway, Congress is still a disappointment, and it doesn't look like much will be changing. That is why Ron Paul might be so popular among the youth, because he isn't a diehard conservative.

At this point, anything goes, but the mudslinging amongst the two lead dummies will continue.

Monday: Birthday Make-up Haul

Hello Hello! So I'm going to try and make each day a new topic to write about for each week. So for example, Mondays may be all about make-up. So I decided I wanted to start with a haul. I just had my 22nd birthday on the 27th and I asked my mom for a bunch of stuff from Sephora. I really love everything I got so I am going to share :)
Okay, so this was from my brother, he got me Gold by Michael Kors. I love this, it is a smell that you need to get adjusted to, but after you do it is amazing. The notes are: Tuberose, Magnolia, Freesia, Violet, Peppery Peony, and Ambergris. It is a very rich smell, but you can tell there is a floral hint to it. I just adore this, but I don't know if I love it more than my Stellanude by Stella McCartney :)
So this is Candlelight by Too Faced. I was so intrigued by this product because it said that it was an invisible powder. Yes, the color is invisible, but my God how there is shimmer in it. It says that you can use it all over your face, but for myself it was a little much. I'd only apply it to your forehead, the cheeks, the temples, and maybe on your nose. I think the shimmer is a little too concentrated, but I do love this as a highlighter. Plus it feels so fancy since there is real crushed gold in it ;)
Next up is Hervana by Benefit, and this is perfection. I have really been into blushes lately and while I really don't love pink; this is the perfect baby pink. The color just works for practically anyone. It applies a little light, which is good because I hate seeing people with loads of blush on. So if you want a deeper color, just apply in layers. Just like all their boxed powders, they smell amazing and they are just so cute. I actually really love the angled brush that comes with it too.
So, I should have taken a better picture but oh well. I just need to say that Urban Decay is starting to become my favorite ever for eye makeup. Their eye shadows are to kill for and so are their eyeliners. I got this set of 5 which are called the darks. I love them. The colors included are: Oil Slick (black with silver sparkle), Stash (a olive green), Corrupt (chocolate brown), Graffiti (emerald green), and Ransom (a duo chrome of blue and purple).
Excuse my horribly pale skin. Then I got the Stila In The Light Eyeshadow Palette, however I have to return it because one of the shadows was broken :( Here's a picture from the site though :)
Finally, I have saved the best for last! I got the Laura Mercier Lingerie Eye and Cheek palette. Oh my goodness, I am in love. It is gorgeous, both blushes are great and so pigmented. The eye shadows are incredible colors that all go together so well. I wore the 2nd down on the left side as a lid color and the 2nd down on the right as my crease color, it is amazeballs.
So I hope you enjoyed and until tomorrow :)

Bobbi Brown Haul 1/26

So today I had my first physical therapy and I figured in honor of that and since tomorrow is my birthday :-D I would go pick up some stuff I wanted at the Bobbi Brown counter. I haven't tried out all of it yet but I still think I'm in love. So the first thing I bought and the original reason I went was a new foundation. This winter weather is killing my skin and while my moisturizers are great, my foundations I found too drying. So I wanted to try their Tinted Moisturizing Balm. I got the color medium.
I tested it on the back of my hand just to see the consistency and I'm in love. It is so creamy but it absorbs right away. The moisture it has is awesome too. I think I've found my go-to winter foundation :) Then I heard a few days ago that the Rose Gold collection came out and I died. I sort of wish they came out with eye shadows but alas they did not. I picked up one of the lipsticks though and I'm sold. The color is Beige Gold, and it is so pretty. I couldn't get a good picture of the swatch on my hand or lips, the light in my room isn't good enough.
Lastly, I picked up one of the two shimmer bricks that was in the collection. I think the other one was Wild Rose, but I got the Rose Gold one and it can be used as eye shadows.
Here is a swatch on my finger when you mix all the colors in the brick together.
I definitely can't afford to do a lot of Bobbi Brown shopping, but her products are completely worth it. Sometimes I wish I could work for the company just so I could have one of everything she's ever made haha Hope you enjoyed!

Changing it up

So I'm sitting in a nail salon getting a pedicure right now. It's my happy birthday present to me haha even if my birthday is not until Friday. I was thinking though last night about my blog and what I really wanted to do with it. I think I might start a schedule for the blog and dedicate each day to a specific topic. I enjoy having a personal blog and a political one but until I can really get into writing political stuff a lot more I may just incorporate both.

Since I know I'll want to write about more than one thing, I will probably write a main daily post and then smaller posts about anything else.

I'll have to sit down and map it out but I think this will really help me get into my writing.

Hopeful new job

I just feel like I need to write about it, because I'm just excited. I just sent in my application to what could be one of the most life changing apprenticeships ever. It is through a group called Public Allies, and they set you up with different non-profit organizations to get a job. Then you work full time for ten months and on Fridays you meet with other members of your class at Public Allies for workshops, classes, and what not for development. I feel like this could be a real step for my career, which is terrifying that I'm even talking about it right now. I mean I've gotten to that point where I'm no longer looking for some regular job, I'm looking for positions in my field of choice. I'm looking for my career. Maybe it is so scary because I've barely even taken any political science classes yet...I start two in a couple of weeks. I start week 4 in my two classes today, Chemistry and History, so in exactly ten weeks I will be done with this semester and I will only have 8 classes left to take. Charlie is barking at me and I'm not sure why but he looked so cute I had to take a picture!

Writing piece

the stars and the moon hover peacefully while our breath is carried away in the wind. the chill in the air sends shivers down our spines but the warmth between us is there. hold me close, don't let go. tell me I'm beautiful, tell me how much I mean to you, tell me I'm yours. speak what you feel, don't hold it in. if you can't find the words then show me, grab my hand, kiss me hard, look into my eyes, but let me know. if there is no words to be found and no way to express it..just find that one way to let me know, I'm that special.
